A
Haunted House-A story as told by the owner of Hocking Hills Homestead.
. .
"After
my father-in-law passed away in 1979, my dear mother-in-law never
got over losing her beloved husband of 66 years and she would set
in the living room with the lights off and cry for hours.
One night she was sitting in his chair crying when she looked up
at the blank TV screen and saw the face of her beloved husband smiling
at her. Though she never got over losing him, she was better
able to bear living without him. When my mother-in-law could
no longer stay by herself, my husband and I took over the farm.
After trying renting the "Homestead" by the month we decided that
we would rent to guest visiting the Hocking Hills. "

"While working
to restore the "Homestead", I spent many, many hours in the house
by myself with total silence except for the sounds that I was making
while I worked. One day as I was working in the living room,
I heard someone walking in the bedroom upstairs. I went up the stairs
and without even thinking of what I was saying, I called out and
ask my father-in-law what he was doing. Finding no one, I
went back to what I was doing and it wasn't until a few minutes
later that I realized what had just happened. It dawned on
me, my father-in-law had been gone for 7 years. Why did I think
it was him that was walking around upstairs? Did I really
hear someone walking up there? I know I heard someone up there
and I was convinced that it was him. I even had some guests
years later who told me that they heard someone walking around in
the upstairs and they were so enthralled by the spirits that they
felt in the "Homestead" and in the surrounding woods that they asked
to stay for 3 more days. That was 27 years ago and to this
day I still listen for the for those footsteps. No one will ever
convince me that I didn't hear my beloved father-in-law walking
around."
