The Legend 1
Rose Lake is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman whose son was lost in Old Man's Cave. She set out to find him, only to fall off a cliff edge herself. Fishermen have reported hearing a woman yelling for her son.
Legend 2
The legendary ghost of Richard Roe, the old man who once lived near Lower Falls of Old Man's Cave, is also said to haunt the hollow just beneath Rose Lake. The baying cries of his hunting hounds have been heard echoing around the lake.
On one of our Haunted Hocking events, the entire group was treated to a serenade from hounds deep in the gorge just below Rose Lake. It was evening and still light outside and strangely, there were absolutely no reports of a large pack of hound dogs running along the crowded trail through Old Man's Cave! Yet, we even got recordings of the wailing cries.
Oh and by the way, Rose Lake is where Ohio's Big Foot has been sited. However, Ohio's Big Foot is better known locally as The Grassman!
